Amid the never-ending delay in reaching an agreement with Iran on permanently ending the war, US President Donald Trump on Wednesday issued a fresh threat to Tehran, hinting at fresh attacks if the peace proposal is not signed soon enough.

In his commencement address at the US Coast Guard Academy, Trump also repeated his disputed claim that Iran’s navy and air force are gone already.

“Everything’s gone. Their navy’s gone. Their air force is gone. Just about everything. The only question is, do we go and finish it up? Are they going to be signing a document? Let’s see what happens,” Trump said.

This comes hours after the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) warned that the West Asia conflict will extend well beyond the region if the US launched fresh attacks on Iran.

“If the aggression against Iran is repeated, the regional war will this time spread far beyond the region, and our devastating blows will crush you,” the IRGC said in a statement on their website Sepah News.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also warned of new surprises if the US returned to war.

Araghchi said that Iran has “learned the lessons and gained knowledge,” adding that a “return to war will feature many more surprises”.

With negotiations not yielding the desired results, Trump has warned of resuming attacks on Iran even as back-channel diplomacy continues to prevent a fresh escalation in the region.

According to the US President, he was just an hour away from launching new attacks on Iran but postponed them after a request from his Gulf allies.
